Maharashtra FDA Busts Bogus Medicine Racket; Seizes 21,600 Fake Tablets
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) exposed a fake medicine racket, seizing 21,600 tablets passed off as antibiotic ciprofloxacin from a government hospital in Nagpur.
The FDA discovered the bogus tablets, worth crores of rupees, during a raid on the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital.
The tablets were supplied to various government hospitals in Maharashtra. The fake drug, manufactured by a non-existent company named ‘Refined Pharma, Gujarat,’ had no medicinal value.
Three individuals, including one already in jail for a similar case, have been booked in connection with the seizure.
