Supreme Court Rejects Hemant Soren’s Plea Against ED Arrest

In response to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on money laundering charges, the Supreme Court has declined to interfere, directing Soren to approach the High Court. The arrest took place late Wednesday night, leading to Hemant Soren’s judicial custody for one day, with a final decision on the agency’s request for a 10-day custody expected on Friday afternoon.

Hemant Soren’s Allegations of Abuse of Power

In his petition before the Supreme Court, Hemant Soren accused the ED of abusing its power and acting in a malafide manner with the intent to destabilize a democratically-elected state government. He labeled his arrest as “illegal and without jurisdiction” and has filed a case against senior officers of the probe agency under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Act.

    Claims of Central Government Influence

Soren further asserted that the ED is blatantly following the directives of the central government, alleging that the agency is hounding him to destabilize the democratically-elected government led by him. The case underscores the complex intersection of legal, political, and jurisdictional issues surrounding the arrest and its potential implications.
