India Maintains Fastest-Growing Major Economy Status in 2023
President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint sitting of Parliament, highlighting India’s significant achievement in 2023 as the fastest-growing major economy. Despite global challenges, the Indian economy recorded growth rates of 7.8% and 7.6% in the April-June and July-September quarters of the financial year 2023-24. President Murmu emphasized this accomplishment as she marked the commencement of the Budget Session of Parliament, projecting a positive outlook for India’s economic trajectory.
Inauguration of New Parliament Building Marks Historic Beginning
President Murmu acknowledged the significance of delivering her first address in the newly inaugurated Parliament building. This monumental structure represents the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat’ and is dedicated to upholding democratic and parliamentary traditions. President Murmu expressed confidence in fostering meaningful policy discussions within this new building, ushering in a new era for India in the 21st century.
Interim Budget Session Sets Stage for Lok Sabha Polls
As the Budget Session unfolds, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the interim Union Budget. This session, comprising eight sittings over ten days, is crucial before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in April-May. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi outlined the session’s focus on financial matters related to the Interim Union Budget for 2024-25 and discussions on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Additionally, the session will address Legislative and other Business, including Supplementary Demands for Grants and the Interim Budget of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
