ED Confirms Rs 7.59 Crore Asset Attachment in Money Laundering Case
ED’s Rigorous Action on Money Laundering: Properties Valued at Rs 7.59 Crore Attached
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has taken substantial action against Sudhir Parmar and others involved in money laundering, revealing provisional attachment of movable and immovable properties worth Rs 7.59 crore. The order, dated August 9, 2023, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, paved the way for the provisional attachment of properties acquired from proceeds of crime. The recent confirmation by the Adjudicating Authority solidifies the attachment, marking a significant development in the ED’s pursuit of justice.
Judge’s Alleged Illegal Gratification: ED Investigation Unveils Intricate Details
The ED’s investigation into the case unfolded an intricate web of corruption involving a former judge, Sudhir Parmar. The agency alleges that the judge received illegal gratification amounting to Rs 5-7 crores from the owners and promoters of IREO Group and M3M Group in exchange for extending favors. Notably, this illicit gratification was reportedly disguised as a loan from Rohit Singh Tomar through his proprietorship firm, channeled into the bank accounts of the judge’s relatives without proper documentation. The ED’s thorough scrutiny led to the arrest of five accused individuals.
Legal Proceedings and Adjudicating Authority’s Confirmation
The ED’s relentless pursuit of justice saw the filing of a prosecution complaint on August 11, 2023, and a supplementary prosecution complaint on October 6, 2023, before the Hon’ble Special Court in Panchkula. The latest order from the Adjudicating Authority, dated January 18, 2024, has now formally confirmed the attachment of immovable properties valued at Rs 7.59 crore, reinforcing the ED’s commitment to unraveling complex financial crimes and ensuring accountability.
