Leh Police Arrest Eight in Alleged Religious Conversion Case; Investigation Underway
LEH, June 19, 2026 [VoM News]: In a major eve, Leh Police have apprehended eight people who are accused for their alleged involvement in organised religious conversion-related activities in Ladakh, officials said on Thursday.
As per details available with VoM News, the police recieved the credible inputs regarding suspected proselytisation activities in various parts of the Union Territory, regarding which an FIR has been also registered at Police Station Leh under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to officials, the accused are suspected of recruiting local youth for conversion-related activities in the regions of Zanskar, Changthang and the Aryan Valley.
Officials further say that preliminary investigations suggest that the group had rented a residential premises in the Skampari area of Leh, where offices were allegedly operating for the translation and distribution of religious literature. The premises are also suspected to have been used for activities linked to religious conversions.

Regarding this, a detailed probe has been initiated to reveal the scale and extent of the alleged operations across Ladakh.
However, reports are also coming that Investigators are also examining possible financial transactions and any suspected foreign funding links as several laptops, digital devices and other materials have been seized during the course of the investigation.
More details are likely to come once investigation team comes with a detailed report. The police have appealed to the public to co-operate and coordinate with the authorities.
