Adani Group and Maharashtra Government to Provide Spacious Flats in Dharavi Redevelopment Project
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL), a collaboration between the Adani Group and the Government of Maharashtra, has announced that eligible residents of Dharavi will receive flats with a minimum area of 350 square feet, featuring independent kitchens and toilets. The redevelopment project aims to improve living standards, offering 17% more space compared to other slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai.
The new flats, designed to be dream homes for Dharavi residents, are intended to uplift their standard of living while reflecting the spirit of the community. The cut-off date for determining eligible residents is set at January 1, 2000. Each flat will include a separate kitchen and an internal independent toilet, prioritizing safety and ventilation.
DRPPL envisions transforming Dharavi into a commercial and industrial complex connected to the world while preserving its cultural heritage and industrial spirit. The redevelopment project also includes provisions for a community hall, recreational area, public garden, hospital, and day-care center for children.
Ineligible residents will be provided housing under the proposed affordable rental housing policy, adhering to Maharashtra Government standards. DRPPL aims to set new benchmarks in slum redevelopment-rehabilitation and urban regeneration, drawing inspiration from best practices in countries like Singapore.
