Odisha Government Orders Doctors to Write Legible Prescriptions

The Odisha government has directed all doctors to write prescriptions in clear and legible handwriting, following an instruction from the Orissa High Court. Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena issued the order, emphasizing that prescriptions should be written in proper, legible handwriting or typed form, adhering to the guidelines of the National Medical Commission. The move is aimed at ensuring that medical practitioners’ prescriptions, medico-legal reports, and post-mortem reports are easily comprehensible for judicial purposes. The high court expressed concern about the casual approach of doctors affecting the comprehension of medico-legal documents and directed the chief secretary to issue the circular for adherence to clear writing practices.
