Mauritian Government Grants Special Leave for Hindu Public Servants to Attend Ayodhya Ram Temple Inauguration
The government of Mauritius has taken a significant step by granting a one-off special leave for two hours to public servants of the Hindu faith. This special leave is provided to allow them to attend prayers marking the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22. The ceremony, known as Pran Pratishtha, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders.
The Mauritian Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, stated that the decision was made in recognition of the “landmark” event symbolizing the return of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. Hinduism is the largest religion in Mauritius, with Hindus representing approximately 48.5% of the population.
Mauritius is the only country in Africa where Hinduism is the most practised religion, and it ranks third globally in the prevalence of Hinduism, following Nepal and India. The decision to grant special leave reflects the significance of the Ayodhya Ram Temple inauguration for the Hindu community in Mauritius, rooted in the historical and cultural ties between the two regions.
