In the final hour of trading on Wednesday, domestic equity markets surged, witnessing Sensex’s rise by 272 points, led by key players such as Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank. The Nifty ended above 21,620, marking a 0.4% increase. Notably, the media, metal, and IT sectors exhibited substantial gains, while sectors like FMCG, realty, and PSU banks lagged behind. Meanwhile, midcap and small-cap stocks saw marginal gains throughout the day.

The Indian rupee also displayed strength, gaining 9 paise to settle at 83.04 against the US dollar compared to the previous session’s 83.1150.

Market participants are eagerly anticipating the release of December quarter results from Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys, slated for Thursday. Additionally, investors are keeping a close watch on significant economic indicators like retail inflation and factory production data, scheduled for release on Friday.

Global markets, on the other hand, witnessed a mixed trend during the day. While Asian markets experienced a dip, Nikkei closed with a robust gain of 2%. European shares slipped as investors assessed corporate earnings and braced for a key US inflation report.

The market sentiment remains attentive to the forthcoming crucial US inflation report, which holds the potential to offer insights into the Federal Reserve’s decision regarding rate cuts.
