JD(S) Leader Kumaraswamy Criticizes Karnataka Govt’s Arrest in Babri Masjid Case
Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy criticized the Karnataka government’s recent arrest of an individual in Hubballi over alleged involvement in the 1992 riots following the Babri Masjid demolition. Terming it “illegal” and accusing the government of engaging in “vengeance politics,” Kumaraswamy expressed dissatisfaction with their actions, stating they’re attempting to distract the public from the Ayodhya Ram temple issue.
Addressing reporters, Kumaraswamy accused the government of misusing its power to suppress opposition voices. He emphasized the government’s focus on diverting attention from development matters by hyping unrelated issues like the arrest and highlighting the Srikanth Poojary case.
Earlier this month, BJP leaders staged protests against the Congress-led government’s actions. State BJP President BY Vijayendra condemned the arrest, describing it as an attempt to silence Hindu activists involved in the Ram Temple construction. He criticized the Congress government for not supporting the temple elevation and demanded the release of those arrested.
In response to the allegations of hate politics, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the arrest, questioning the approach towards wrongdoers and implying consequences for their actions. Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar clarified that the arrest was part of maintaining law and order, denying any engagement in “vendetta politics.”
The BJP condemned the arrest, labeling it as unjust after 31 years since the Babri Masjid demolition riots.
The situation surrounding the arrest has sparked political tensions in Karnataka, with parties expressing opposing views on the motive behind the arrest and the government’s handling of the matter.
