QCI and KVIC Join Hands to Elevate Khadi Quality and Global Appeal
The Quality Council of India (QCI) and the Khadi Village and Industries Commission (KVIC) have initiated a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing the quality of khadi products, empowering artisans, and introducing the ‘Made in India’ label for Khadi.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at Kochrab Ashram, Ahmedabad, holds significant importance, symbolizing Khadi’s heritage and its association with Mahatma Gandhi, who propagated it as a symbol of India’s freedom movement and rural empowerment.
The signing took place in the presence of Jaxay Shah, Chairperson, QCI, and Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, KVIC. This collaboration seeks to transform Khadi into a global emblem of quality and sustainability while ensuring it retains its timeless allure.
The agreement between QCI and KVIC aims to fortify the overall quality ecosystem, providing support to KVIC through various interventions. These include deploying third-party assessment frameworks, empowering artisans through capacity building to enhance productivity and income, and promoting Khadi products nationally and internationally.
Additionally, the ‘Made in India’ label for Khadi, introduced under this partnership, is expected to substantially elevate the production and sale of Khadi products, fostering growth in the entire Khadi industry.
Jaxay Shah emphasized, “Khadi embodies the essence of self-reliant India and stands as a representation of India’s cultural identity. This collaboration will maintain Khadi’s authenticity while paving the way for global recognition.”
Manoj Kumar highlighted the impressive growth of the Khadi industry, witnessing a 268% surge in production and a 332% spike in sales from 2013-14 to 2022-23, translating to substantial employment opportunities. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would further elevate Khadi’s recognition and consumer preference.
This alliance aims to not only preserve the heritage of Khadi but also modernize its appeal, making it a sustainable choice and driving its global acceptance.
