Jk Government Approves Establishment of Finger Print Bureau
The government of Jammu and Kashmir has given the green light for the establishment of a Finger Print Bureau in the Union Territory, as reported by Republic on Monday.
This initiative aims to facilitate law enforcement agencies in swiftly identifying suspects and cross-referencing fingerprints from crime scenes with existing records. Such efforts will streamline the examination of criminal histories, aiding in the identification of suspects.
According to sources, this move is expected to bolster efforts in combatting militancy and enhancing the process of suspect identification. The Administrative Council, led by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, along with the Home Department, has sanctioned 73 positions for the forthcoming bureau in the region.
An official disclosed to Republic that the Finger Print Bureau will be led by an official of Senior Superintendent of Police rank. The bureau will have support from one Superintendent of Police and two Deputy Superintendents of Police. Furthermore, the J&K Home Department has approved five ministerial posts of police officials for the bureau. Additionally, 22 Sub-Inspectors and 28 selection-grade constables will also be part of this new wing.
The bureau’s primary function will involve maintaining a comprehensive and secure database of fingerprint records of suspects. This includes organizing, indexing, and regularly updating the database to ensure swift and accurate retrieval of information when necessary, as per the report.
