Internet Services Suspended in Jammu and Kashmir Amid Terror Search Operation
Amidst a significant hunt for terrorists responsible for an attack on Army vehicles claiming five lives, mobile Internet services in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri districts were suspended early Saturday.
The suspension was in response to the mysterious deaths of three individuals reportedly held by the Army for questioning, fueling public outrage due to videos hinting at their alleged mistreatment.
The Army and civil authorities, maintaining silence on the matter, took the step as a precautionary measure to prevent potential unrest fueled by misinformation, officials stated.
In a bid to ensure peace, senior Army, police, and civil officers are closely monitoring the situation.
Additional police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas of the districts.
The attack, involving three to four heavily-armed terrorists targeting an army gypsy and a truck at Dhatyar Morh in Poonch, led to the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to two others.
The assailants reportedly mutilated the bodies of at least two soldiers and seized their weapons.
Despite a massive search operation in the forested regions encompassing Thanamandi in Rajouri, officials have not reestablished contact with the fleeing terrorists.
Tragically, three detainees linked to the attack, identified as Safeer Hussain, Mohd Showket, and Shabir Ahmad from Topa Peer village in Bufliaz, died under mysterious circumstances after being taken into custody.
Their deaths, currently under investigation, have prompted authorities to hand over the bodies to their families for funeral rites. The cause of their deaths remains undisclosed.
