Ch Venkateswar Rao, the Additional Director General (ADG) overseeing GSI’s southern region, officially opened the office within the premises of the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) at Kanuru in Vijayawada.
The primary objective of this office is to enhance coordination between GSI and the state government concerning mineral exploration matters. Mr. Rao emphasized that the office would facilitate the exchange of crucial mineral-related data between GSI and the state authorities.
S N Mahapatro, the deputy director general at GSI, highlighted the significance of this camp office for streamlining coordination, providing technical guidance on mining block auctions, and fostering knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
GSI, established in 1851 following extensive geological endeavors during colonial times, stands as a key repository of geo-scientific information in India. It plays a pivotal role in creating and updating national geo-scientific data and conducting mineral resource assessments. The organization employs various methodologies like ground surveys, air-borne and marine surveys, mineral prospecting, and investigations.
Beyond mineral exploration, GSI conducts diverse geoscientific studies encompassing geo-technical, geo-environmental, and natural hazard assessments. The institution also undertakes research in glaciology and seismotectonics, yielding outcomes of substantial societal value.
