Mazagon Dockyards Limited (MDL), a state-owned entity, has responded to the Defence Ministry’s tender to construct three new Kalvari class submarines for the Indian Navy.

Senior defence sources informed ANI that the PSU’s proposals for this significant project, to be indigenously executed in Mumbai in collaboration with French firm Naval Group, have been received by the Defence Ministry.

Five out of the six Kalvari class submarines, also known as the Scorpene class and ordered from France in 2005, have already been inducted by India, with the sixth anticipated for induction next year.

The government greenlit Project 75 Additional Submarines during a Defence Acquisition Council meeting in July, alongside the approval for 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets.
