Mizoram Election Count Rescheduled to December 4 Amidst Intense Competition
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled the counting of votes for the Mizoram assembly elections to December 4. This decision comes after several requests from various quarters in the state to change the original counting day, which was set for December 3.
Preparations for Smooth Counting Process
The state election department is diligently preparing for the vote count, ensuring all necessary arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the process. Counting will be held across 13 centers in the state, with 40 counting halls set up to accommodate 399 EVM tables and 56 postal ballot tables.
Large Personnel Deployment for Vote Counting
Approximately 4,000 personnel will be involved in counting the votes, indicating the scale and importance of the electoral process in Mizoram. Mizoram’s Director-General of Police, Anil Shukla, has assured that all arrangements have been made to ensure a trouble-free counting day.
High Voter Turnout and Competitive Political Landscape
The Mizoram assembly elections, which occurred on November 7, witnessed a high voter turnout of 80.66%. Exit polls and political analysts suggest a close contest between the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM).
Confidence Amongst Regional Parties
Both the MNF, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, and the ZPM, led by former IPS officer Lalduhoma, are confident of securing an absolute majority to form the next government. The ZPM Working President K Sapdanga, contesting from the Aizawl North-III constituency, expressed strong belief in his party’s victory.
In addition to these two main contenders, the Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are also significant players in the election, with the Congress contesting all 40 seats and the BJP contesting 23.
The rescheduled counting day is highly anticipated in Mizoram, as it will determine the political direction of the state for the coming term.
