All 14 Indian Nationals Aboard Yacht Off Yemen Coast Reported Safe: Indian Embassy in Yemen
MUMBAI, October 23, 2026 [VoM News]: All 14 Indian nationals aboard a yacht involved in an incident off Yemen’s coast have been reported safe and are believed to be near Hodeidah, the Indian Embassy in Yemen said on Friday.
“Reports suggest that all 14 Indian nationals are safe and located around Hodeidah in Yemen. We will continue to work for ensuring their well being,” the embassy said in a post on X.
The statement came after Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Thursday that they were rescuing a boat carrying 14 Indians following an alleged attack near Jabal Zuqar island, close to the strategic Bab el-Mandeb strait.
The Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for the alleged attack. Saudi authorities had not responded to a Reuters request for comment on the claim.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy had said precise information about the Indians was unavailable and efforts were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The development comes amid continuing hostilities around Yemen and the wider Red Sea region, where shipping routes have faced heightened security risks.
India is among the world’s largest suppliers of seafarers, with more than 300,000 Indians employed across global shipping fleets, according to government data.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday also condemned attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, describing such attacks as “unacceptable.”
