The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised allegations against the Congress-led government in Karnataka for purportedly publishing advertisements in Telangana media, claiming it as an attempt to influence the upcoming assembly polls in Telangana. A BJP delegation has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, citing violations of the Representation of the People Act and the Model Code of Conduct.

Details of the Complaint

The BJP delegation, including Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, former Minister Prakash Javadekar, and other party leaders, submitted a complaint to the Election Commission. They accused the Karnataka government of advertising in both English and regional Telangana media, deeming it a “corrupt practice” aimed at swaying the election outcome.

BJP’s Stance on the Matter

Yadav highlighted this act as evidence of the opposition party’s disregard for democratic institutions and norms. The BJP has called for legal action against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other Congress members involved, emphasizing the misuse of public funds to influence elections in another stateThe BJP leaders, including Sudhanshu Trivedi and Om Pathak, urged the Election Commission to hold the Congress and the Karnataka government accountable for their actions. Model Code of Conduct Violations

The BJP’s complaint to the Election Commission also referred to the Model Code of Conduct, which prohibits advertisements by non-polling states in media with circulation in states where elections are ongoing. The party insists that such actions are clear violations of the code.

Telangana Assembly Polls

The assembly polls in Telangana are scheduled for November 30, with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP involved in a closely contested battle. The BJP’s complaint comes in the backdrop of this electoral contest, seeking to ensure adherence to electoral norms and fair play.
