Election Countdown: Tax Raids Hit Congress Camp in Telangana
Pre-Poll Tension: I-T Raids Congress Candidate’s Abode
As the countdown to the Telangana assembly elections begins, the Income Tax department has launched searches at the residences and offices of P Srinivas Reddy, the Congress candidate from the Palair constituency in Khammam District. These raids come at a critical juncture as Reddy was on the cusp of filing his nomination papers for the upcoming polls on November 30.
Protests Erupt Amidst Alleged Targeting
The response to the I-T department’s actions was swift and vocal, with Reddy’s supporters taking to the streets of Khammam. They voiced their dissent against what they perceive as targeted raids. This public display of defiance echoes Reddy’s own predictions, made just a day earlier in a press conference, where he voiced concerns over potential raids by Central agencies on figures affiliated with the Congress.
Accusations of Collusion and Political Witch-Hunts
The political narrative took a sharp turn as Reddy accused the incumbent BRS government and the BJP of orchestrating a series of attacks on Congress leaders, insinuating a political witch-hunt. He appealed to his followers to remain peaceful, suggesting that any agitation could bring further troubles upon him and his business ventures.
A Pattern of Pre-Election Scrutiny
These incidents are not isolated; the tax department’s gaze has been steadily fixed on the Congress, with searches conducted last week at the homes of other party candidates, including K Laxma Reddy and Badangpet Mayor Chigurintha Parijata Narasimha Reddy. As the political temperature in Telangana rises, these raids are being scrutinized for their timing and intent.
