    Five Killed in Manipur Violence, Houses and Shops Set Ablaze in Kamjong District

    IMPHAL, October 10, 2026 [VoM News]: At least five persons were killed in separate incidents of violence in Kamjong and Ukhrul districts of Manipur with several houses and shops burnt down in the renewed tension between the Naga and Kuki-Zo communities, as per information available with VoM News.

    Michael Ngamminlen Haokip, 23, was allegedly shot dead in Kamjong’s Chassad area on Saturday. A Kuki woman, Domkhonei Touthang, mother of five was killed due to gunshot wounds on Friday night, earlier.

    A total of two Naga villagers, Ngachanso Ningshen (35) and Leishishan Leishadang (48), were also said to have been killed, closer to the Indo-Myanmar border in Ningchou village. Sandeep Rai, 40, was killed by gunmen suspected to be armed in neighbouring district Ukhrul after they attacked his car near Yaolen.

    At least 10 homes and 20 shops were burned down in Chassad, reports said. The Kamjong government had banned the gatherings and movement in certain areas under the provisions of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

    In the mean time, the Committee on Tribal Unity called for 24 hours shutdown, effective from Saturday night, at all places in Kangpokpi district.

    Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed worry on the violence stating that 7 persons had been killed in the state. He called on the security forces to recover illegal weapons and take action against armed groups.

    Police have not identified who was behind the attacks.
