Yashasvi Jaiswal Sensational Double Century Steals the Show in Rajkot
Team India’s dynamic opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, delivered a spectacular performance on Day 4 in Rajkot, clinching his second consecutive double century in successive Tests and captivating the crowds with his explosive batting display. Battling back spasms from the previous day, Jaiswal’s heroic effort dismantled the English bowling attack, leaving spectators in awe.
Resilience Amidst Setbacks
Recovering from back spasms that briefly sidelined him after an impressive 104-run innings on the third day, Jaiswal exhibited remarkable resilience. Padded up at the beginning of Day 4, he joined Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav to resume the Indian innings. Despite Gill’s unfortunate run-out on 91, Jaiswal showcased unwavering grit, making a conventional restart to his innings.
Steady Accumulation and Aggressive Flourish
As the pitch showed minimal signs of deterioration, England’s bowlers persisted in their efforts, but Jaiswal remained resolute. Gradually settling into his innings, he found his rhythm, steadily accumulating runs. Towards the end of the first session, reminiscent of Day 3, Jaiswal accelerated his scoring rate, hitting two sixes off Rehan Ahmed and another maximum against Joe Root.
Record-Breaking Blitz After Lunch
By Lunch, Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 149 runs off 189 balls, swiftly reaching his 150-run milestone after the break. In an electrifying display, he continued his assault, hitting three consecutive sixes off James Anderson in the 85th over. Racing to 180 at a strike rate surpassing 80, Jaiswal achieved a historic second double century in quick succession.
Elite Company and Historic Feat
Jaiswal’s remarkable achievement placed him in elite company, becoming only the second Indian batter to score two double centuries in consecutive Tests of a series. Joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, who accomplished this feat against Sri Lanka in 2017, Jaiswal etched his name in cricket history. While Vinoo Mankad is the only other Indian batter with two double centuries in a series, Jaiswal’s feat of achieving them in successive Tests sets him apart.
