Cracks Detected on Pul Doda Bridge, Vehicular Movement Restricted, Expert Team to Arrive Today
Doda, July 27, 2026 [VoM News]: The authorities have restricted vehicular movement on the Pul Doda Bridge after cracks like gaps were noticed on the structure.
The officials from the concerned department visited the site and confirmed the presence of cracks like gaps on the old Pul Doda Bridge.
Sources familiar with the matter told VoM News that an engineering and bridge expert team from Jammu is expected to arrive today to inspect the cracks.
An official of the concerned department said that the cracks do not appear to be structural in nature and may instead be due to the overlapping of shuttering plates.
However, he added that a final assessment and clearance will be given only after the expert team completes its inspection.
He further said that, as a precautionary measure and to ensure public safety, vehicular movement has been suspended on the bridge, with traffic being diverted through the new Ganpat Bridge to avoid transportation issues.
As the region has witnessed heavy monsoon rainfall, the water level of the Chenab River near Pul Doda has risen above the danger mark, raising concerns among residents.
Some people are linking the rise in the water level to the reported cracks. However, the exact nature and cause of the cracks will be determined after the expert team’s inspection.
