Women Empowerment: Assam Assembly Passes Resolution For 33% Women’s Reservation

ASSAM, May 26, 2026 [VoM News]: A resolution backing the 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and the state legislatures, moved by Women and Child Development Minister Ajanta Neog, was passed by the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The move aims to strengthen women’s participation in politics and decision-making, said Minister Ajanta Neog.

She added that women make up nearly half of both India’s and Assam’s population, and also account for 50% of the electorate. Thus, the legislation would be helpful in strengthening the role of women in decision-making and politics.
