
West Bengal Police Arrest Four After Alleged Attack on TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee
WEST BENGAL, MAY 31, 2026 [VoM News]: The district police has arrested four people in connection with an alleged attack on Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee during his visit to Sonarpur, Parganas district of West Bengal.
As per details available with VoM News, overnight raids led to the arrests after police examined CCTV footage of the area.
Details further stated that neither Banerjee nor the All India Trinamool Congress filed a formal complaint till the filing of this news report. However, police registered a suo motu case, and the accused are expected to be produced before a court in Baruipur soon.
The incident took place when the Diamond Harbour MP visited Sonarpur to meet victims of post-poll violence. A large crowd hurled stones and eggs at Banerjee and also used abusive language, PTI reported.
Visuals of the MP wearing a helmet while leaving the area were also making rounds on social media.

PTI further reported that some people attempted to physically assault Banerjee, following which security personnel escorted him to safety.
Abhishek Banerjee accused Bharatiya Janata Party workers of carrying out the attack. Meanwhile, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, in a post on X, accused the BJP of violence and criticised the party.
Senior TMC leaders, including Derek O’Brien and Firhad Hakim, also visited the hospital.
Meanwhile, BJP West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya denied the involvement of the party and claimed that the incident reflected public anger following alleged past harassment by TMC workers.
