    In a somber turn of events, the seasoned BJD leader and 10-time Odisha MLA, V Sugnana Kumari Deo, breathed her last at a private hospital in Chennai at the age of 87. The sad demise occurred around 1 am, following a visit by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior party members the night before.

    Condolences Pour In from Dignitaries

    Expressing their sorrow, Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and various other dignitaries offered heartfelt condolences on the passing of Deo. Her contributions to the BJD and public service were acknowledged, highlighting her remarkable tenure as a 10-time MLA representing both Khallikote and Kabisuryanagar.

    “Saddened to know about the demise of V Sugnana Kumar Deo. She was a very senior leader of BJD and she made a lot of contributions towards the party. She has left her mark in public service by representing both Khallikote and Kabisuryanagar. It is an irreparable loss. May her soul rest in peace, and my deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” Mr. Patnaik shared in a poignant post.

    A Legacy of Legislative Service

    Deo’s political journey commenced in 1963 when she was first elected to the Odisha Assembly. With an impressive record, she served as an eight-time MLA from Khallikote and a two-time MLA from Kabisuryanagar. Her remarkable electoral victories in 1963, 1974, 1977, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2004, 2009, and 2014 attest to her enduring commitment to public service and legislative excellence.
