US Vetoes UN Resolution Calling for Gaza Ceasefire

The United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution urging an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The resolution, backed by 90+ member states, was blocked as the US Deputy Representative labeled it as “divorced from reality.”

The resolution’s failure stemmed from the absence of condemnation for Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, causing the US and the UK to oppose it.
