Dorothy McAuliffe, the US State Department’s Special Representative for Global Partnerships, is set to visit India from June 7 to 8. During her visit, she will travel to Kochi to meet participants and deliver closing remarks at the WiSci (Women in Science) South Asia STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and design, and mathematics) Camp, according to a press release from the US Department of State.
The WiSci South Asia STEAM Camp, running from June 1-9, is an immersive all-girls camp that brings together nearly 100 secondary school girls from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the US, and Maldives. The camp aims to provide skills-building, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities across various STEAM fields. Industry experts from the US private sector develop and lead the interactive curriculum and workshops.
In its press release, the US State Department emphasized that the WiSci camps advance the Department’s gender equality priorities by investing in girls’ education and leadership development globally. After her engagements in Kochi, McAuliffe will visit various cities in India to meet key stakeholders and discuss partnerships with the US Department of State. She will also hold meetings with alumni of past Office of Global Partnerships initiatives, including the winners of the 2022 P3 Impact Award and recipients of the Office of Global Partnerships’ COVID-19 Private Sector Engagement and Partnership Fund.
This visit underscores the robust US-India partnership, which spans a wide range of areas, driven by shared democratic values and converging interests on numerous issues. The relationship is characterized by vibrant people-to-people contacts and extensive cooperation in fields such as economic opportunities, health, and climate change.
Earlier in April, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti highlighted the successful cooperation between the US and India in combating cybercrime. During a special screening of the documentary “Bogus Phone Operators” in New Delhi, Garcetti emphasized the multiplicative relationship between the two nations, noting their collaboration in addressing cyber-security threats and other challenges. This synergy is reflected in various joint initiatives, showcasing the depth and strength of US-India relations.
