US Denies Iranian Strike On USS Abraham Lincoln As UAE Reports Drone Attack
The United States has rejected Iran’s claim that it struck the USS Abraham Lincoln with ballistic missiles, as tensions escalate across the region.
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched four ballistic missiles at the aircraft carrier, according to Iranian state media. However, US Central Command (Centcom) said the vessel was not hit.
“The missiles launched didn’t even come close,” Centcom said in a statement, adding that the USS Abraham Lincoln continues to conduct flight operations in support of what it described as a “relentless campaign to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime.”
The USS Abraham Lincoln, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, carries advanced F-35 stealth fighter jets and operates alongside guided-missile destroyers equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles. It is typically accompanied by a nuclear-powered submarine.
UAE Reports Drone Strike On Naval Base
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates said it intercepted Iranian drones targeting a naval facility in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said two drones struck a warehouse at Al-Salam Naval Base, causing a fire in containers storing general materials. Authorities said there were no casualties.
The ministry condemned the incident as a “blatant aggression and a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law.” Iranian state media reported strikes on a military base in Abu Dhabi but did not provide further details.
The UAE said it has intercepted 167 missiles and 541 drones since hostilities began on Saturday, underscoring the scale of the ongoing confrontation.
The developments come amid heightened regional tensions following exchanges between Iran and US forces. Washington has not indicated any change in posture following the reported missile launches, and the situation remains fluid.
