Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur Commends Success of Khelo India Para Games
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, addressing the closing ceremony of the Khelo India Para Games in Delhi, hailed the event as a catalyst for inclusivity and highlighted the extraordinary achievements of athletes.
Thakur praised the athletes for not only their wins but also for sharing their stories, spirit, and unwavering passion on the playing arenas.The Khelo India Para Games saw Haryana emerge as the top medal-winning state with 105 medals, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 62 medals and Tamil Nadu securing third place with 42 medals.
Thakur lauded the participants, emphasizing that their involvement holds more significance than just winning medals, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s belief in ‘Jab Kheloge to Khiloge’ (When you play, you bloom).He reiterated the government’s commitment to treating para-athletes on par with able athletes, ensuring equal support in terms of competition exposure and prize money.

Thakur highlighted the investment of Rs 52 crore during the Paris Paralympics cycle.The Minister emphasized that the games aimed beyond podium finishes, focusing on breaking barriers and fostering a sense of community and sportsmanship.
He shared inspiring stories of athletes overcoming challenges, such as visually impaired long jump athlete Jagdish Parmar and gold medalist Rajesh from Tamil Nadu, demonstrating resilience and determination.
Thakur highlighted the sports science and nutrition conclave organized during the event, aiming to enhance performance through scientific means and dispelling myths around disabilities in sports. He extended gratitude to coaches, trainers, support staff, and volunteers for their contribution to the success of the Khelo India Para Games.
Thakur expressed optimism about India’s performance in the upcoming Paris Olympics, aiming to surpass previous medal tallies. He emphasized the rigorous training being undertaken by athletes, foreseeing a historic achievement for India on the global sports stage.
