Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Chair Core Group Meeting of Jammu and Kashmir BJP
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over a Core Group meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi. The meeting is expected to discuss a range of issues, including possible elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Panchayats, and Lok Sabha elections scheduled for early next year. Key BJP leaders, including Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh, BJP MPs, and prominent figures from the Union Territory, have been invited to the meeting.
Agenda and Discussions
While the specific agenda has not been disclosed, it is likely that the meeting will focus on election strategies and preparations. Municipal and Panchayat elections are due to be held between October and December, as both bodies will complete their five-year terms in the coming months. The BJP’s performance in these elections, particularly in the Jammu region, will be a point of discussion.
Lok Sabha elections are also approaching, and the BJP aims to increase its tally in Jammu and Kashmir from two to three seats. The party is eyeing the South Kashmir-Poonch constituency, which has a significant Pahari voter population and is expected to receive Scheduled Tribe (ST) status before the parliamentary polls.

The BJP’s overall preparations for various elections, including Urban and Rural Local Bodies, Parliament, and Assembly, are expected to be reviewed, with Core Group leaders providing their insights on the situation.
The meeting comes as Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a significant milestone in e-governance, offering over 1028 online services for citizens, institutions, and businesses. This achievement reflects the government’s commitment to providing accessible and efficient services through digital governance.
