TMC MP Mahua Moitra to Attend Lok Sabha Ethics Committee Meeting Amid Cash-for-Query Allegations
On Tuesday, TMC Member of Parliament, Mahua Moitra, confirmed her willingness to appear before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on November 2 in response to allegations made against her in the cash-for-query case. While Ms. Moitra expressed her readiness to cooperate with the committee, she also conveyed her desire to cross-examine businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who had made these allegations.
Debate Over the Jurisdiction of the Ethics Committee
In her statement, Mahua Moitra raised questions about the suitability of the Ethics Committee to examine allegations that involve potential criminal activity. She underlined that parliamentary committees typically lack criminal jurisdiction, emphasizing the necessity of involving law enforcement agencies in such cases.
Ms. Moitra concluded her response by reiterating her commitment to respecting the committee’s summons and will present herself on November 2, 2023, at 11 am.
