Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by IMD Chennai
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai has issued a thunderstorm warning for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, predicting moderate thunderstorms and rain for the next three hours.
Regions Expected to be Affected
The alert specifies that areas such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms with rainfall. Lighter thunderstorms are expected in Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvaur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal.
Traffic Disruptions Anticipated
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai warned of potential traffic disruptions due to waterlogging in some areas, urging commuters to plan accordingly.
Ongoing Rainfall and Weather Outlook
The Chennai Regional Meteorological Department also forecasted light to moderate rainfall over the next three days, with heavy rainfall expected in districts like Nilgiris and Coimbatore. Recent heavy rains have already caused significant waterlogging and traffic issues in Coimbatore.
