Telangana Heatstroke Toll Reaches 16, Compensation Awarded

TELANGANA, MAY 25, 2026 [VoM News]: Amid the severe heatwave conditions predicted by the India Meteorological Department, 16 casualties have so far been reported in Telangana, as per details available with VoM News.

State Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials after 16 casualties were reported across multiple districts.

Authorities have been urged to remain on high alert and ensure the availability of drinking water, ORS packets, buttermilk distribution and medical readiness.

Senior citizens, pregnant women, along with those suffering from health issues, have been advised to avoid stepping out between 11 am and 4 pm.

Meanwhile, the state government has awarded an ex gratia compensation amount of ₹4 lakh to the families of those who died due to heatstroke and extreme temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department has already warned of extreme temperatures and heatstroke, and the advisory needs to be followed at the ground level.
