Strait of Hormuz Will Be Open But With Transit Fees: Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali

Strait of Hormuz Will Be Open But With Transit Fees: Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali

TEHRAN, JUNE 08, 2026 [VoM News]: Amid the Iran-US war, a new political development emerged after Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, stated that the key energy route would remain open for international shipping with the possible imposition of a transit fee. He added that Iran and Oman would jointly determine it under new regulations.

In an interview with Izvestia, a Russian newspaper, Kazem Jalali stated that Tehran and Muscat provide services related to navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz, and that fees may be charged for those provisions in the near future.

The route, which carries nearly one-fifth of the global energy supply, has faced disruptions since tensions between Israel and Iran escalated, followed by United States airstrikes.

Negotiations reportedly brokered by Pakistan have not yielded fruitful results so far, as proposals forwarded by Iran were opposed by the United States.

Due to these disruptions, the global economy has faced a major setback, while efforts are continuing to negotiate between the United States and Iran amid the ongoing conflict.
