In a heartfelt message to the voters of her Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi announced on Thursday that she would not be participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Citing health and age concerns, the 77-year-old, who has represented the constituency since 2004, expressed gratitude to the constituents for their support over the years.
In her emotional address, Sonia Gandhi acknowledged the pivotal role her constituents played in shaping her journey, stating, “I am proud to say that whatever I am today, I am because of you, and I have always done my best to honor your trust.” While stepping back from electoral contention, she subtly hinted at the possibility of a family member entering the political arena from the Rae Bareli segment.
“I will not contest the next Lok Sabha election on account of health and age issues,” Sonia Gandhi declared in her message, signaling a significant shift in her political trajectory. The statement reflects a deep sense of gratitude and a willingness to pass the political baton to the next generation within her family.
