Congress CEC Meeting:Noteworthy Exclusions and UP Seat Sharing
Amidst the discussions, it was highlighted that certain constituencies, including Amethi and Rai Bareli, would not be addressed during the current session. The Congress party’s seat-sharing arrangement within the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh allocates 17 candidates out of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats to Congress. This decision has raised eyebrows, prompting comments from Union Minister Smriti Irani.
Congress CEC Meeting:Speculation and Smriti Irani’s Remarks
Smriti Irani, who previously defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 elections, expressed surprise at the prolonged delay in announcing Congress candidates. She suggested that the delay might be indicative of the Congress party’s lack of confidence and potential challenges in the upcoming elections. Irani emphasized that Amethi, once considered a stronghold of the Gandhi family, is no longer firmly under Congress’ influence.

In parallel with candidate discussions, the Congress panel responsible for formulating the party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls has completed the draft. The committee, headed by former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, will present the draft to the Congress Working Committee for further deliberation. Chidambaram noted that the finalized manifesto will subsequently become the official document of the Congress party, setting the stage for the upcoming elections expected to take place in April-May this year.
