Shia Leader Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi Appears in Court, Calls for FIR Withdrawal Amid Supportive Appeals
Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, the prominent Shia leader and President of the Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Sharie Shian Association, honored a court appearance at the Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Sumbal in Bandipora, complying with a warrant related to a 2010 FIR.
Accompanied by his legal counsel, he was warmly welcomed by a substantial gathering of supporters.
A subsequent statement released by JKANJSS highlighted the circumstances of the 2010 sectarian clashes in Sumbal Sonawari, where Aga Syed Hassan’s intervention, alongside Shaheed Moulana Showket Shah, diffused tensions and restored peace through community engagement.
The FIR (No 278/2010) was filed by the then Government at Sumbal Police Station in the same context.
Referencing the warrant (111/5-B/1PSB/23) from the Court of JMIC Sumbal Sonwari, the statement confirmed Aga Syed Hassan’s appearance and the Court’s decision to grant exemption for future hearings, considering the situation.
Expressing gratitude, the statement thanked the Followers of Sader-e-Mohtaram for their unwavering solidarity and appreciation.
It also acknowledged the cooperation of the Budgam and Bandipora district administrations, recognizing their respect for the sentiments of the followers.
Meanwhile, several politicians and religious leaders have appealed to withdraw the FIR against the Shia leader. M Y Tarigami, a senior leader from the CPI(M), emphasized the responsible behavior of religious leaders during the 2010 tensions in Budgam and urged the J&K administration to intervene and annul the old FIR.
Additionally, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama J&K, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, vehemently opposed the case filed by the J&K administration against Agha Syed Hassan Al Mosvi Al-Safavi, stressing his consistent efforts to promote sectarian unity and communal harmony.
The Majlis called for the immediate withdrawal of the case, asserting that it lacked justification.
