India Must Listen Before a Life Is Lost; Urgent Letter of Hindus for Human Rights

India Must Listen Before a Life Is Lost; Urgent Letter of Hindus for Human Rights

Washington, D.C. (July 15th, 2026) — As Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike continues and his health deteriorates, Hindus for Human Rights has sent an urgent open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Department of Higher Education Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi.

The letter calls on the BJP-led government to immediately begin good-faith dialogue with the Cockroach Janta Party, student protesters, and others demanding accountability for examination failures that have disrupted young people’s education, livelihoods, and futures.

In our open letter, we invoke the long tradition of fasting and hunger strikes in India’s history, and encourage government officials to honor this form of protest and listen to the demands of protestors before human life is lost.

This is about more than arranging a meeting. It is about whether students harmed by examination irregularities and institutional failures will be treated as equal citizens whose rights, dignity, and futures matter.

The government must listen, protect life, answer the failures the protesters have exposed, and establish a credible path toward accountability & resolution.
