Unveiling a Star: Sarfaraz Khan’s Record-Breaking Debut
Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan marked his international debut with a stellar performance during the third Test against England. He achieved a rare feat, becoming only the fourth Indian player to score twin half-centuries on Test debut. In a memorable match, Sarfaraz showcased an aggressive style of play, particularly targeting the spinners.
Twin Fifties: Joining Elite Company
In the first innings, Sarfaraz displayed his attacking prowess by scoring 62 runs off 66 balls, including nine fours and a six. His second innings performance was even more remarkable, contributing an unbeaten 68 runs in 72 balls, featuring six fours and three sixes. He now joins the elite company of Dilawar Hussain, Sunil Gavaskar, and Shreyas Iyer as the only Indians to achieve this milestone.
Record-Breaking Partnership: Sarfaraz and Jaiswal’s Spin Domination
During the second innings, Sarfaraz formed a scintillating partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, amassing 172 runs for the fifth wicket. The duo’s aggressive approach took England’s spinners to task, setting a new record for the highest run-rate in any 150-plus run partnership for India. Their partnership run-rate of 6.53 surpassed the previous record held by Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay.
India’s Commanding Victory: Spin Trio Dominates England
Chasing a challenging target of 557, England succumbed to the Indian spin trio. Ravindra Jadeja led the charge with a five-wicket haul (5/41), supported by Kuldeep Yadav (2 wickets), Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah (1 wicket each). England was bundled out for just 122 runs, resulting in a comprehensive 434-run victory for India.
A Test of Dominance: India’s Strong Second Innings
In India’s second innings, the team secured a massive lead of 556 runs, declaring at 430/4. After skipper Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal, young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill steadied the ship with a 155-run partnership for the second wicket. Jaiswal’s standout innings included a double century, while Gill fell agonizingly short of a hundred, scoring 91.
