Ruturaj Gaikwad Sets New Record in T20I Series Against Australia
In the fifth T20I between India and Australia held in Bengaluru, Ruturaj Gaikwad achieved a significant milestone by becoming the highest run-scorer in a T20I bilateral series against Australia. Gaikwad scored 223 runs at an average of 55.75 in the five-match series, surpassing New Zealand’s Martin Guptill’s record of 218 runs set in 2021. Despite a modest score of 10 in the final match, Gaikwad’s consistent performance in the earlier games helped him secure this record. He now stands as the third highest run-scorer in a single series among Indian batters, trailing behind KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.
India Clinches Series with Shreyas Iyer and Pace Duo’s Impressive Performances
India sealed a 4-1 series win over Australia with a thrilling six-run victory, largely credited to Shreyas Iyer’s crucial 53 off 37 balls and the commendable death overs bowling by the young pacers Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar. India set a target of 160 for 8 on a challenging Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch, with Iyer’s innings being a key contributor.
Australia’s Close Chase and Indian Bowlers’ Resilience
Ben McDermott’s aggressive half-century (54 runs off 36 balls) put Australia in a strong position, but they ultimately fell short, ending at 154 for eight. Arshdeep Singh’s excellent bowling in the last over, conceding only three runs, was pivotal in clinching the win for India. Mukesh Kumar also played a crucial role with his game-changing 17th over, taking crucial wickets and maintaining a tight line.

Notable Performances by Indian Bowlers
Axar Patel’s economical bowling (1/14 in 4 overs) and his valuable 31 runs off 21 balls were crucial in the challenging pitch conditions. Ravi Bishnoi also made a significant impact with his bowling figures of 2/29 in 4 overs, contributing to India’s victory.
McDermott’s Efforts for Australia
For Australia, Ben McDermott stood out with his powerful batting, exploiting the opportunities and challenging the Indian bowlers with his aggressive play. However, his efforts were not enough to secure a win for the Australian team in the face of India’s strong bowling and fielding performance.
