Rupee Strengthens Against US Dollar Amid Weakening Greenback
The Indian rupee showed a recovery in early trading on Wednesday, rising to around 83.28 against the US dollar. This improvement comes amid a weakening American currency, with the rupee opening 6 paise higher at 83.30 a dollar compared to its previous close of 83.36.
US Dollar Index and Treasury Yields
The US dollar index, a measure against a basket of currencies, remained flat at 103.58, near its early September levels but slightly above the overnight low of 103.17. Concurrently, US Treasury yields also saw a dip, hovering around 4.40%.
Previous Performance and Forex Traders’ Outlook
The rupee had previously closed 2 paise lower at a record closing low of 83.36 a dollar on Tuesday. Forex traders have observed the rupee trading within a narrow range, influenced by continued foreign fund outflows. Anil Kumar Bhansali of Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP noted the Federal Reserve meeting minutes indicated limited progress in core inflation reduction, emphasizing a cautious approach to rate hikes.
Market Expectations and Oil Prices
The rupee is expected to maintain its current range, with US dollar bids overshadowing inflows. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, saw a slight decrease of 0.10%, standing at $82.37 per barrel.
Tren Pasar Ekuitasds
In the domestic equity market, the BSE Sensex was trading slightly higher at 65,999.16, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained modestly to 19,805.45. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Tuesday, offloading shares worth ₹455.59 crore.
This scenario reflects the dynamic interplay between global currency movements, investor sentiments, and domestic financial markets, highlighting the rupee’s responsiveness to international economic trends.
