Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot found himself embroiled in controversy when he accused the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of spreading confusion by sharing incorrect information regarding his attendance at the G20 special dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu. Gehlot claimed that the MHA had denied permission for his helicopter to travel to Sikar for a scheduled event.
Permission Delayed, Tweeted Response
According to Gehlot, an email seeking permission for the helicopter was sent to the MHA on Friday at 10:48 am, but approval did not arrive until 3:58 pm. In response to this delay, Gehlot took to social media, tweeting at 2:52 pm to explain the reason for his absence. By that time, he had already departed from Udaipur to Jaipur by plane and then continued his journey to Nowai by road.
Missed Opportunity at Sangliya Peeth
Expressing disappointment over the situation, Gehlot stated that due to the MHA’s delay in granting permission, he could not attend the event at Sangliya Peeth in Sikar, marking the death anniversary of Baba Shri Khinwadas Ji Maharaj.
MHA’s Response
In response to Gehlot’s claims, the Ministry of Home Affairs clarified that no request from the Rajasthan CM had been denied. The MHA stated that it had approved all four flight permission requests received from CM Rajasthan, including the one for Sikar. It further clarified that while scheduled flights of commercial aircraft and movements of Governors and State Chief Ministers on their State aircraft are allowed, private chartered flights require specific MHA approval.
Congress Displeasure and G20 Summit
Gehlot’s absence from the G20 dinner sparked displeasure within the Congress party, as Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was not invited. The G20 summit, a significant international event featuring world leaders, is set to take place at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan on September 9 and 10.
Notable Invitees
Former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda are among the invitees to the G20 dinner. However, Deve Gowda conveyed his inability to attend due to health reasons. The event will host 170 special invitees, including foreign leaders, heads of delegation, chief ministers of all states, cabinet and state ministers, secretaries in the Central government, and other distinguished guests.
Distinguished Attendees
Apart from President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar with his wife Sudesh Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind, and former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will join the dinner party, making it a significant gathering of political leaders and dignitaries.
