Rahul Gandhi Vows to Conduct Caste-Based Census, Questions PM Modi
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi pledged that the Congress party would conduct a caste-based census if they come to power at the national level. He challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain why he is apprehensive about it. During a gathering in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker ahead of the state assembly elections, Gandhi stated that the Congress would initiate the caste-based census as swiftly as possible. He also emphasized that the work would begin within two hours of the Congress government assuming office at the Centre.
Rahul Gandhi questioned PM Modi about his reluctance to conduct a caste-based census and urged him to include this topic in his speeches. He further demanded the release of data prepared during the previous government, stressing the need for the participation of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) section.
Chhattisgarh is preparing for state assembly elections, with polling scheduled for November 7 and November 17, and the counting of votes set for December 3. The first phase of polling will encompass 20 seats, with the remaining 70 seats to be contested later.
The Congress party has already announced its candidates for various constituencies in Chhattisgarh, including reserved seats. The election in Chhattisgarh will be fought on 90 assembly seats, and both major contenders, BJP and Congress, have unveiled their final lists of candidates
