Addressing a press conference in Gumla, Jharkhand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized the significance of the Caste Census, stating that it is crucial for ensuring participation and representation. He pointed out the apparent confusion of Prime Minister Modi, who identifies as OBC.

Call for Caste Census: A Matter for All Indians

Rahul Gandhi asserted that the need for a caste census is not limited to an individual but concerns the entire population of India. He highlighted the unequal representation of OBCs, Dalits, and tribals in various sectors, citing examples from IAS, corporate ownership, and the health and education systems.

Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and Alliance Dynamics

Regarding the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Jharkhand, Rahul Gandhi clarified that Mamata Banerjee remains part of the INDIA alliance despite Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s exit. He emphasized the tribal-friendly nature of the government in Jharkhand compared to what he described as an anti-tribal stance of the BJP-led government.

Rahul further outlined the broader purpose of the Yatra, addressing issues of social justice, economic injustice, employment concerns, rising wages, PSU bans, the caste census matter, the 50% reservation cap, injustice against women, and farmers’ struggles.
