PM Modi Boosts Jammu Development Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant day-long visit to Jammu, marking his second visit to Jammu and Kashmir during his second term, which commenced in May 2019. The visit holds particular importance as it precedes the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in April-May, where Modi will be vying for a third consecutive term as the country’s prime minister.
Landmark Day for Jammu’s Development
On the eve of his visit, PM Modi expressed anticipation, stating that the projects to be dedicated during the visit would provide a “big boost” to the region’s all-round development. He emphasized that the initiatives to be inaugurated are pivotal for the “Ease of Living” and will signify a landmark day for the education sector, with institutions like IITs and IIMs receiving permanent campuses. Modi took to social media, specifically X (formerly Twitter), to share his excitement.
Massive Investment: ₹32,000 Crore Worth of Projects
The event, scheduled to commence at around 11:30 am at Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, will witness the laying of the foundation stone for projects worth ₹32,000 crore. These projects span various sectors, encompassing health, education, rail, road, aviation, petroleum, and civic infrastructure. Notable among them are the establishment of IIT, IIM, and IIS campuses, new structures for Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas, AIIMS Jammu, a new terminal at Jammu airport, rail and road initiatives, and a Common User Facility (CUF) petroleum depot.
Interaction and Employment: Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Programme
During the visit, PM Modi will not only inaugurate and lay foundation stones but will also engage with beneficiaries of various government schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu’ program. Moreover, he will distribute appointment letters to 1500 newly recruited government employees in the Union Territory.
In April 2022, PM Modi made his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir during his second term. The current visit takes on added significance as it aligns with the impending Lok Sabha elections, providing the Prime Minister with an opportunity to showcase the developmental strides in the region and garner support for his leadership.
