PM Modi Attributes JK Issues to Nehru’s Policies in Parliament
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a scathing critique of the Gandhis, Congress, and the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in his latest parliamentary address. In his final speech before the upcoming elections, PM Modi criticized Rahul Gandhi for his “Mohabbat ka Dukaan” campaign and accused Nehru of lacking faith in the Indian people’s potential.
During his speech, the Prime Minister once again held Nehru responsible for the challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that they had paid a “heavy price for his mistakes.” The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) considers the abrogation of Article 370, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir, as a major achievement.
Throughout his hour-and-45-minute address, PM Modi repeatedly referred to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the positive changes in the region, such as increased tourism and the hosting of G20 summits, pointing out that the global community now praises the area.
Towards the end of his speech, PM Modi emphasized the transformation in the discourse surrounding Kashmir. He questioned the origins of the issues faced by the region and squarely placed the blame on Nehru’s policies.
The Prime Minister accused Nehru of harboring doubts about the capabilities of the Indian people. Quoting Nehru’s purported statement from the Red Fort, PM Modi claimed that the first Prime Minister considered Indians “lazy and lacking in intelligence” when compared to Europeans and Americans.
PM Modi also drew attention to similar sentiments expressed by Nehru’s daughter, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. According to the Prime Minister, she too shared the belief that the nation tended to become complacent when nearing the completion of a good work and would lose hope in the face of obstacles.
In his address, PM Modi presented a critical perspective on Nehru’s legacy, linking it to the challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir and expressing the need for a reassessment of historical policies.
