PCB Secures 2025 ICC Champions Trophy Hosting Rights in Dubai Ceremony
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) achieved a pivotal breakthrough by finalizing the hosting rights for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in a momentous ceremony held in Dubai. Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, and Jonathan Hall, ICC General Counsel, led the official signing of the agreement, marking a crucial step for Pakistani cricket.
This agreement signifies a remarkable milestone for Pakistan cricket, heralding the country’s inaugural hosting of an ICC event since the 1996 ODI World Cup. The resumption of the Champions Trophy, after an eight-year hiatus since its previous edition in 2017, will witness the participation of eight international teams, encompassing Pakistan, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and Bangladesh.
While the anticipation is high, the PCB encounters significant challenges ahead. The foremost concern revolves around the uncertain involvement of the Indian cricket team due to persisting safety apprehensions.
Additionally, the pressing need for infrastructure refurbishment remains a pivotal hurdle for the PCB to swiftly address. Presently, only Karachi, Lahore, and Multan boast stadiums capable of hosting matches during the Champions Trophy, necessitating a prompt renovation drive to meet tournament standards.
