Pat Cummins Lauds Smith and Marsh’s Heroics in Australia’s Win Over Pakistan
Following Australia’s resounding 79-run triumph against Pakistan in the second Test Match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Aussie skipper Pat Cummins lauded Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh for their pivotal knocks, crediting their partnership for reclaiming the game.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Cummins acknowledged that Pakistan’s strong bowling performance had initially placed Australia on the back foot. However, he commended Smith’s and Marsh’s remarkable partnership, emphasizing that it revitalized their position in the match, providing a competitive total to defend.
“Steve’s and Marsh’s partnership really got us back in the game. We were behind for a little while, they were bowling well, had their tails up, wicket was tough. That was a huge partnership, got us back in the game, and gave us something to defend,” Cummins remarked, highlighting the significance of their standout performance.
Despite facing a challenging situation at 4/16, Cummins expressed the team’s confidence and trust in their ability to bounce back. He emphasized the support and trust among teammates, acknowledging the consistent emergence of different match-winners in the team, making 2023 a memorable and successful year for Australian cricket.
Reflecting on the match, Cummins expressed his satisfaction with the crucial wicket of Mohammad Rizwan in the second inning, underlining the significance of playing at the iconic Boxing Day Test.
Australia secured a 79-run victory, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series against Pakistan. Cummins, with a 10-wicket match haul, led the charge alongside Starc’s hostile spell of fast bowling, propelling Australia to a successive triumph.
The third and final match of the series is scheduled to take place from January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with Australia aiming to maintain their dominant performance.
The match showcased standout performances from Marnus Labuschagne, Shan Masood, and Mohammad Rizwan. Still, it was Smith’s and Marsh’s resilient partnership that shifted the momentum in Australia’s favor, ultimately securing a crucial victory against Pakistan.
