Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy Concludes Productive Session
Under the chairmanship of MP Jagdambika Pal, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy (2023-24) concluded its valedictory sitting on Thursday. The comprehensive review encompassed the overall performance of the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and all associated PSUs, institutions, and bodies.
Distinguished Tenure and Active Participation
During the 17th Lok Sabha, the committee held an impressive 89 sittings, spanning 169 hours and 15 minutes, presenting 41 reports and laying 29 statements before Parliament. The recent period since September 2022 witnessed the committee’s dedication, conducting 47 sittings lasting approximately 111 hours. This active participation, particularly without any adjournments for lack of quorum, distinguishes the committee’s commitment.
Extensive Coverage of Key Subjects
The committee, comprising 17 Members of Parliament, engaged in comprehensive discussions, covering a wide array of subjects during its regular sittings and study visits. The emphasis on addressing issues of public concern, especially in the energy sector, marked the committee’s productive tenure. Notably, it stood out as the only committee graced by the presence of the Speaker, Lok Sabha, during a sitting on November 3, 2022, reflecting its significance and impact.
As the committee concludes this session, its focus on constructive discourse and comprehensive coverage reinforces its role in contributing to the discourse on energy-related matters in the country.
