Orientation Training Programme on Leprosy Conducted in Doda
In an effort to enhance awareness and combat Leprosy, the Zonal Leprosy Office DHS Jammu, in collaboration with the District Leprosy Society Doda, organized a comprehensive orientation programme in Doda on November 23. This initiative aimed to educate health workers and ASHAs about Leprosy’s prevention and treatment.
Participation and Agenda of the Programme
Held at the Conference Hall of the CMO Office in Doda, the event saw the participation of health workers from various blocks, including MMPHWs, FMPHWs, MLHPs, and ASHAs. Key figures like Dr. Sushma Mattoo, Zonal Leprosy Officer DHS Jammu, and other staff members from the Leprosy sector, including Ms. Yogeshwari Sharma, Budget & Finance Officer ZLO Jammu, attended the programme.
Objectives and Discussions
The programme, initiated by Sh Surinder Bijyal, was designed to sensitize participants about Leprosy, aiming to reduce stigma, enhance community awareness, and promote early detection of cases in the district. Dr. Mattoo emphasized the importance of early detection and timely treatment, reassuring that Leprosy is curable at all stages. She also discussed the strategy to control Leprosy and highlighted the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP).
Distribution of Educational Materials and Self-Care Kits
Participants were provided with Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on Leprosy. In addition, a visit to the HWC- Sub Centre Ramgarh in the Medical Block Assar was organized, where footwear and self-care kits were distributed to old Leprosy cases, and awareness was further generated among the masses.
This programme marks a significant step in Doda’s efforts to tackle Leprosy, focusing on educating healthcare workers and the general public about this curable disease, its prevention, and the importance of early treatment.
